We saved heaps of mandarins from the local green grocery icon, Spudshed. A chance encounter with the Galati family - WA’s fresh produce royalty - sparked this epic collaboration. Using excess mandarins to their fullest, we’ve crafted a seriously juicy gin that’s bursting with vibrant mandarin flavour in every sip.

Smell: Bursting with layers of fresh mandarin and marmalade. A subtle hint of warming spice and chamomile.

Taste: Fruity and full-bodied with intense mandarin, fresh rosemary and a smooth but peppery finish.

The Hero Ingredient

After a couple of meetings with Spudshed CEO, Frankie Galati, one Saturday morning we got a surprise phone call that he had in excess of 100kg of Mandarins that were about to go to waste. Neither of us could let that happen so we raced over in our van and got to work transforming them into something equal parts delicious, and awesome.

How we made it

We used the mandarins in every way possible to extract maximum flavour from them. First, we juiced them and set the juice aside to dilute the gin (instead of water) after the distilling.

We distilled half of the leftover peels alongside our signature Final Squeeze Citrus Gin botanicals and a touch of Mistletoe Herb (it is the season, after all!). The remaining peels were directly infused into the gin after distilling.

Sip It, Or Savour It

We love a double shot of Mandarin Gin with 150ml of dry tonic and a mandarin wedge. Or, for something equal parts sweet and tart, try it in this twist on a classic cocktail:

Mandarin Gin Cosmo

  • 60ml Mandarin Gin
  • 30ml Cranberry Juice
  • 10ml Lime Juice
  • 10ml Sugar Syrup (1 part sugar : 1 part water)

Add all ingredients to a shaker tin with cubed ice, shake hard for 20 seconds, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
